Crimewriter Ann Cleeves on Shetland – closer to Bergen than Edinburgh

The author on four decades of inspiration from the austere but beautiful islands that you must call Shetland and not the Shetlands. Shetland’s influences are far more Scandinavian than Celtic. Lerwick is closer to Bergen than Edinburgh. Some visitors expect people to speak Gaelic and that there are going to be cèilidhs.
